Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17/10/2026
Thula Thula Guest House respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use this website or enquire about a stay, why we collect it, how we look after it and the rights you have under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
1. Who We Are
Thula Thula Guest House is a self catering guest house at 1784 Geelslang Road, Marloth Park, 1321, Mpumalanga, South Africa. For the purposes of POPIA we are the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy. You can contact us at bookings@thulathulaguesthouse.com.
2. Information We Collect
Information you give us
- Booking enquiries: your full name, email address, phone number, arrival and departure dates, the number of adults and children in your group, your children’s ages and anything you include in your message.
- Emails and messages: the details you share when you contact us directly.
- Your stay: the information you give us when you confirm a booking and when you arrive, such as the names of the guests in your group and the details we need to manage your booking and damage deposit.
Information collected automatically
When you visit this website, our hosting and website software may record technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device and the pages you visit. This is used to keep the website secure and working properly. See section 9 for how cookies are used.
3. Why We Use Your Information
- To reply to your enquiry and give you availability and rates.
- To confirm and manage your booking and your stay.
- To administer the refundable damage deposit.
- To meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.
- To keep this website secure and prevent spam and misuse of our enquiry form.
We will not send you marketing messages unless you have agreed to receive them, and you can opt out at any time.
4. Our Lawful Basis
We process personal information only where POPIA allows it: with your consent (for example when you tick the consent box on our enquiry form), where it is needed to take steps towards or perform a booking you have asked for, where we must comply with the law, or where it is in our legitimate interest to operate and protect our business and this website.
5. Children’s Information
We ask for the ages of children in your group only so that we can quote correctly, as guests aged 18 and over are charged as adults. This information is supplied by a parent or guardian, who consents to it being used for this purpose. We do not knowingly collect any other personal information about children.
6. Who We Share It With
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers who help us run this website and our email, such as our website hosting company. They may use your information only to provide their services to us and must keep it secure and confidential.
- Booking platforms such as Booking.com, if you choose to book through them. Their own privacy policies apply to the information you give them.
- Authorities where the law requires us to.
This website shows an embedded Google Map. When it loads, Google may collect information about your visit under its own privacy policy.
7. Information Sent Outside South Africa
Some of our service providers, such as email and mapping services, may store or process information on servers outside South Africa. Where this happens we rely on providers that are subject to laws, binding rules or agreements that give a level of protection substantially similar to POPIA, as section 72 of POPIA requires.
8. How We Protect It and How Long We Keep It
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your personal information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including an encrypted (SSL) connection on this website. We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy, or for as long as the law requires, for example for tax records. After that it is deleted or de-identified.
9. Cookies
Cookies are small files stored in your browser. This website uses cookies that are needed for it to work properly and securely. The embedded Google Map may also set cookies. If we add website analytics in future, we will update this policy. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, although some parts of the website may then not work as intended.
10. Your Rights
Under POPIA you have the right to:
- ask whether we hold personal information about you and request a copy of it;
- ask us to correct or update information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- ask us to delete information we no longer have a lawful reason to keep;
- object to us processing your information, and withdraw your consent at any time;
- lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.
To make a request, email bookings@thulathulaguesthouse.com. We may need to confirm your identity before we act on a request.
